John Roberts is profesor de arte y estética en la University of Wolverhampton.

Entre sus multiples publicaciones se encuentran los libros The Art of Interruption: Realism, Photography and the Everyday (1998), The Philistine Controversy escrito en colaboración con Dave Beech (2002), Philosophizing the Everyday: revolutionary praxis and the fate of cultural theory (2006), y The Necessity of Errors (2011).

Su ultimo libro Photography and Its Violations va a ser publicado por Columbia University Press en 2014, y ahora está terminando un Nuevo libro para Verso, Revolutionary Time and the Avant-Garde.

Es también colaborador en varias publicaciones y revistas como Radical Philosophy, Oxford Art Journal, Frieze Magazine, Historical Materialism, Third Text, y Cabinet.
